Baldy is an interactive crowdsourced filmmaking system where a live audience collectively creates a complete film by voting on AI-generated options at every level of the creative process. Built at the Generative Media Hackathon in April 2026.
The Problem
Filmmaking is traditionally a top-down creative process: a director's singular vision brought to life by a crew. Audiences are passive consumers of the final product, never participants in the creative decisions that shaped it.
The Solution
A host creates a room, the audience joins via QR code on their phones, and together they shape a film from high-level premise all the way down to visual style, with AI generating the actual video clips and narration.
How It Works
The system breaks filmmaking into 5 levels: Premise, Structure, Scenes, Script, and Visuals. At each level, AI generates three options (plus audience submissions), and viewers vote in a March Madness-style bracket. The winning choice at each level becomes the foundation for the next. Once all creative decisions are locked in, the system generates video clips with scene-by-scene narration and premieres the finished film.
