Best Life is a two-part personal project (a single-file interactive scavenger hunt and an importable calendar feed of recurring local events) designed to make it effortless to live richly in a neighborhood. The hunt gamifies exploration; the calendar makes showing up automatic.
The Problem
Moving to a new neighborhood, or wanting to engage more deeply with the one you're in, means discovering what's actually happening nearby (farmers' markets, free concerts, historical landmarks, local institutions) and then remembering to show up. That information is fragmented across dozens of websites, and most calendars don't guide exploration.
The Solution
A self-contained HTML scavenger hunt checklist with persistent progress, per-item timestamps, and a JSON export, plus an importable iCalendar feed of recurring local events so showing up becomes passive rather than active. Both files are plain text, with no build step and no dependencies, so the project is trivially adaptable to any neighborhood.
Key Features
- Single-file HTML scavenger hunt, no build, no dependencies, works offline
- localStorage progress persistence with per-item completion timestamps
- Progress bar, reset button, and JSON export of completed items
- Importable
.icsfeed with RRULE-based recurring events - Sourced from hyperlocal calendars: museums, parks, libraries, markets, venues
- Fully adaptable: clone and edit two plain-text files for any neighborhood
